So I was just thinking about car museums and how much work must go into keeping all of the cars showroom perfect every day. Then I thought it would be kind of cool if an art museum somewhere would buy an ordinary, boring, new car and then display it for the next 50 years without ever touching it. It would be stored in the center of a room that is not climate controlled, far enough from the walkways that no one can touch it, but still exposed to their breath and anything else that could damage the car after prolonged exposure. It would also be kept under a glass skylight, allowing it to be faded or even warped by the heat. And that's all there is to it.

so the exhibit would be to demonstrate that things get old? Not that I'm criticizing, cause frankly its as valid as anything else.

That's pretty much exactly what Tulsa should have done with that 1957 Belvedere instead of burying it in an underground swimming pool for 50 years. Would have been a bit faded, but at still drivable and not all rusted to hell. Of course, people in 1957 probably thought there would have been at least one, possibly two, nuclear wars by 2007, so an above ground location was likely ruled out as impractical.
